“Coming Out” Releases Guide for Professionals Working with Transgender People
The LGBTQ+ organization Coming Out has published a new comprehensive guide for psychologists and helping professionals who work with transgender clients. The guide aims to improve understanding of transgender identities and support more ethical, safe, and informed practices.

What’s in the guide?
The manual covers key topics such as:
  • What is transgender identity and gender identity in general?
  • How to respectfully and correctly interact with transgender clients
  • How to support transgender teens and their families
  • How to avoid discriminatory behavior, even unintentionally
  • How to protect both yourself and your client in situations involving pressure, threats, or instability

Who created it?
The guide was developed by Egor Burtsev, a psychologist and expert in socio-psychological research on gender and sexuality. With over 8 years of experience working with transgender and LGBTQ+ clients, couples, and communities, Egor also advises on access to medical and mental health care for gender and sexual minorities.

Scientifically grounded and practically useful
The guide draws on current scientific research, international best practices, and the experience of Coming Out’s specialists. Written in accessible language, it’s designed to be a practical tool for daily work—especially in a context where no official methodology exists for supporting transgender people in Russia.
